I take it that you are located back east or in the mid west. Areas that do not have open range laws as there are in Arizona and many of the western states. Here livestock have the right of way in all open range areas which is most of the state. I live 1and 1/2 miles from Marana, AZ and all of the land around me is open range and close to 2/3 of the town of Manara is open range. If you want to keep livestock out of your property you are responsible for fencing your property. Unlawful confinement of someones livestock is a felony. If you hit livestock in an open range area you pay for the animal and all of the offspring it may of had. People have been trying to change the laws all the time but they never seem to get anywhere. Ranching and farming in this area still have political pull.
