Ransomes developed the idea in the 1980's and Dowdeswell continued with the idea in the 1990's. Both the major ploughmakers here gave up the idea as a bad job - its didnt work and didnt sell. The big arable farmers will have 6 furrow mounted rear ploughs, but more furrows have to be semi mounted because of the weight on the 3 point, and lack of weight/traction on the front driving wheels. They usually are transported in the halfway-over mode with a swivelling transport wheel at the rear to take the weight off the 3 point hitch whilst driving on the road which makes them more controlable. The latest 10 to 12 furrow reversibles are made to articulate in the centre to give smooth entry and exit, and turning circle on the headlands. David.
