Allan, just yesterday an old friend of mine stopped by and we were talking about old times. Planting wheat came up and we remembered standing out in the field discussing this vary same thing. There is no answer. Plant it shallow and wait for a rain--get 4 tenths and it sprouts and dies. Plant it deep, get an inch and it crusts. After a life time of this, the best I can say is that if you CAN get it to moisture, do so. We have even adapted our drills to help with this. 14 inch spaceing. If no moisture, just plant it deep enough to be on firm dirt.... Understand anything is just a guess, and do it your way with out believing in what some old f.... says. Don't know the dates where you are but you might hold off a week or two and hope for a rain, but forcast is not good. But plant it whatever.
