: In your comment you state your timing is at TDC.
: I'm not sure about the 8n but my ford 2000, at 450-475 rpm should be at 4 degrees before TDC at 2200 rpm it should be 24 degrees before TDC. The wrong timing will cause hard or no starting. without timing marks on the flywheel I'm not sure how to verify the timing accurately.
: Hope this helps.
Tony- Thanks for the input. There is a static timing procedure based on distributor shaft alignment with respect to one of the mounting holes. To be done with the distributor out on the bench. Spark advancement at higher RPMs is a mechanical configuration accomplished by centrifical force acting on rotating weights. Very similar to the govenor. There is no way to accurately check any of this because as you say on the 8N there are no timing marks. There have been a lot of great comments and support to help resolve this problem. It seems to boil down to poor compression which I am working on. I'll try to keep you posted. Thanks to all.
Bill
