Thanks for all of the replies. I did not check the air cleaner for a clog, but the tractor dies the same when the intake tube is removed from the carb. I did not check the coil and the wires are old. I will replace the wires. The coil it now has looks to be new as the paint is shiney, the part numbers nice and bright and no old dirt build up on it. It is very possible that the previous owner put this coli on right before I bought the tractor at auction to get it to run and put on a cheap universal automotive coil and this coil has failed, so I will replace the coil also for good measure.
As far as mud dobbers closing up the vent hole on the regulator, I have not checked that. Where is this vent located on an Ensign system?
