In Lester Larson's book on Nebraska Tractor Tests 1950-1976 there is a sequence of pictures showing the application of a kit to make that assembly from Ford tractors. So it may not be quite so rare, though in a couple years JD brought out the new generation tractors that did as much horsepower without the dual engine complications.
