Another thing that makes it a little easier on you and the tractor and may get it done a little faster is to use two chains , one hooked to the tree , the other to the tractor and both to a heavy duty semi or even an old 24" tractor tire in the middle for a little cussion so you can give it a little more jerk to break those stubborn roots. We used to do this on the farm to get things out of the mud while on mud. Works great and we never pulled a tire apart even with the 1030 Case. Even if you do the chains will just fall to the ground. There is no "rubber band" to the tire or the chain.
