When I was a kid seemed like the whole entire community turned out for the fair and it was all quilts women had made, canning stuff they had put up, giant pumpkins, 100 lb watermelons, dozens of types of exotic poultry, and of course all the livestock, etc. Really great times...
Seems like now it is more commercial exhibits, gaming booths asking for money at every turn, and lot less of the things people actually produced themselves...
I guess everything is changing.
I try to make either the Oklahoma State Fair or the Texas State Fair almost every year, anyway.
After waiting a year at a time, there sure is nothing else to compare to a genuine Corny Dog with a big Fair lemonade!!
