One other thing to remember, those transmissions need to be serviced. Its amazing how long one will last if you change the fluid at the recommended intervals and how fast you can tear one up by not keeping it up. We don't run Dodges but our Chevys have been hitting some pretty high mileage marks without many failures.
I am not familar with the HD transmission in the diesel, but I know the Dodge cars are very specific about the type of oil you put in them, using a cheaper brand (like one Jiffy lube will try to put in) will ruin one faster than not changing it at all.
