DO NOT USE TA JUST TO SLOW down the tractor. This is to be used only in tough conditions with a pull on the tractor. Plowing,disking,cultivating and so on. With TA engaged(lever back) It free wheels going over hill and does damage the rollers and ramp in the unit itself. Anytime the tractor is overunning the TA it is causing some damage. Brakes are for slowing, TA is for pulling consistant load. Lever foward is direct drive. Lever back engages the TA for tough pulling. When changing from DD to TA do it quick from one to another. If used properly they last for years. They must be adjusted exactly by the book or damage may occur. When out of adjustment it is uaually hard to get the tractor in and out of gear. If right the tractor should hold itself on a hill in DD with the clutch pushed in enough to disengage the main clutch. For example pushed 1/2 to 3/4 down it should hold. Pushed all the way down it should let it roll.
