: : Tractor was parked last October and every thing was fine. Started it today and there was no oil pressure. Oil was drained and sump filter cleaned. Main oil filter was cleaned. Oil lines were opened at the flywheel and governor fittings and the tractor started. No oil. Any suggestions regarding problem would be appreciated before I tear down the engine.
: :

: Relax - the engine is not toast. There's no way you can go from "good oil pressure" to "no oil pressure" overnight due to engine damage. The problem's not in the motor, it's in the pump/supply system.

: The most frequent cause of this is a crack in the oil pickup tube. Sometimes it breaks entirely. Drain the oil, reach up into the drain plug hole and feel for the "cup" on the end of the pickup tube. If it's rattling around, or wobbling frightfully, it's cracked or broken.

: Also check the oil pressure releief valve on the front of the motor - it may be stuck open or the spring may be broken.

: If it's not those things, then the pump has expired. To replace pump or pickup, you will need to remove the oil pan and that means the front axle has to come off.

: Be of good cheer, it's not that bad.

Good stuff. Thanks a lot llamas. Am trying to prime the pump first as per another suggestion. Dropping the pan on my 8N is a major job. Tractor has a backhoe and front blade interleaved and all tied to the front end.

Thanks for the tips.
