My S-10 with the 4.3 is the same way. I was told Dex-Cool was mixed with the reg. antifreeze and it messed up the coolant. All my other fluids are fine, and it cools the truck just fine, and I was told it won't hurt anything. I know I should change it, but it's been about 40k miles and no problems. If you've got the time and/or money I would change it, but I seem to come up short on one or both of those all the time.
