Ford 8N Stuck in Gear

I took the transmission cover off to put on a new starter button, and didn't realize the spring that sits under the cover came out. I buttoned everything back up, drove the tractor a bit, but then became stuck - actually between two gears, and not in neutral. Anyone had this predicament?
