I'm not sure that rings would even cause the white smoke. Seems more like a fuel pump or injector problem. As for the rings seating, when I overhauled my car, they told me it would take serveral hundred miles for the rings to seat. I don't think a few hours will seat the valves much. Could it be the pump or injector for that hole is bad? Might try switching the injetor with another cylinder and see if the smoke moves. Starting cold, they might all do that. We have an 830 Case diesel that needs either under about 40. I think it was their design. Aaron
