I suspect he was making up some of his tales. He did say that houses were ruining the desert though. The same thing is happening all over. I wonder about all the folks that build big high dollar houses in the middle of a forest and then expect fire departments to save their houses when the woods catch fire. You always hear of fire destroying thousands of acres when in fact it is good for the forest. Years ago most the forest around here would burn off every year. They didn't even try to put them out. The woods are so thick with under growth now that you can barely walk through them. I suspect there will be a big fire sooner or later as all the logs and old pine trees that died a few years back will now add fuel for the fire.
