In the early 80s, and I think some straggled onto the 90s, I remember seeing palm trees lining the channel to Rock Harbor, Orleans, Massachusetts -- on Cape Code. There's broad tidal flats (1/2 mile +) the channel crosses, and someone had the "brilliant" idea to use palm trees as the channel marker.

Now someone below said they'll live in a Zone 7 area but a harsh winter will kill 'em off and that describes Cape Cod pretty good -- usualy pretty mild being surrounded by ocean water on three sides, but occasionally join the rest of New England for blizzards and sub-zero temps.
