Some developers are trying them in St. George UT, which is around 3500 ft. elevation. Last winter they had a long cold spell, as did most all of the west, and I am seeing several of them with dead frons now. Still, some are recovering this summer. I had to laugh when I saw them being hauled in from the south and planted over the past few years. In my mind I just thought, wait till winter. There is a guy in northern UT (Ogden I think) who has one in his front yard. He has christmas lights wrapped around it 365 days a year and the lights are always on. I guess the warm lights keeps the tree from freezing.
