My old instruction book does not give a torque setting. Is says: Tighten all cylindr head nuts or cap-screws gradually and evenly, going over them several times until all are uniformly tight. Start at the center and work from side to side and outward to the ends. After the engine has been warmed up a final tightening should be made. On overhead valve engines, always remember that the clearance between valvestems and rocker arms is changed each time the head is tightened down, Therefore, always check and adjust the clearance after such operation. This manual has a 1950 copyright. Here is a torque guide
