People are surprised when I tell them I was born and raised in FL because I have no southern accent. That's because FL for the most part wasn't populated appreciably until the 30's/40's/50's by northerners. The northesters (PA/NY/MA) populated the east coast (US1/I95), and the midwest (Ohio/Mich/Ill) populated the west coast (301/I-75).
