The first time I tried to get the spare off my last S-10 I discovered the spare was padlocked to the frame with a cable. Seems our local dealer had gotten it from an urban dealership where they have a problem with theft, and nobody remembered to take the lock off or send the key with the truck. Fortunately I was at home and not on the road.
