Two points no one has mentioned:

1. Under some circumstances, its better to throw the grass away from the edge, like to throw grass clippings and weed seeds away from shrubbery and flowers. Dosen't sound like that's the case here.
2. If the grass clippings are to be raked up and disposed of, throwing them into a windrow would make raking them up easier.

I figured out that you didn't want a pile of clipping in the middle of the yard to shade out and kill the grass so long ago I have forgotten the event. Maybe this guy will figure it out for himself.

It amazes me that so many people can't do simple practical thing like changing a flat tire. What really amazes me is that there are people, some farmers, that are not maintenance minded and let their equipment fall apart.
