Since pineapple and sugar cane are the past, I would think that coffee, macadamia nut, etc. would be the thing to see. I know that they have a lot of things being produced there but am not familiar with them. You could check out the volcano (that is what it is noted for) and you should do an online search of the island of Hawaii (big island) to get better help than I can give (LOL not much help). I haven"t been to the big island since the 70"s and a lot has happened since then. Just remember to take your valuables with you and not leave them in the car. Lots of two legged rats.
