I live in MN, run diesels at 15 below F at times. I would not use a dipstick heater, I hear they can scorch the oil. Blah. Tank heaters probably work the fastest. Frost plug heaters work also. I have a low-watt magnentic heater that I stick on the oil pan in addition to the tank heater if I need to get one started as fast as possible, but at zero degrees the tank heater (1500 watts) alone gets my 85hp tractor going with 30 weight oil in less than 2 hours. Keep your tractor in a shed. Or a lot of the heat blows away. Use the right oil, probably a multi-grade for winter. (I do now, but with the tank heater it worked fine with the summer oil.) For some tractors ether setups can be installed to help cold starts, but be real careful or your glow-plugs can blow something up - like the intake manifold. Also either can be very hard on the engine, it explodes differently & using too much can break things. Your call... --->Paul
