I've seen several springs 'holed up' around here, in a couple different ways. I know where one is, in the mouth of a small hollow. That is the sweetest and coldest water you ever tasted! They just built a concrete basin as old said, right against the rock face of the bank where the spring runs. I'd say it holds 75 gallons and the overflow just runs down the branch. The cattle can always get a drink there. Years ago, they had a lid on it and piped it to the house. Keep a frog in your spring box to keep the bugs ate up! The other spring run out of the hill and they jammed a pipe in the rock seam and ran it down the hill maybe 20 feet to a concrete tank that probably holds 500 gallons....actually there are 2 of these and the cattle don't have to walk all the way down to the creek to drink. They make a mess of it, but don't seem to mind:).
