Sounds like a fun project Jak. I have seen a few cases where a bit too much cam gives a mean street idle and bleeds off enough low rpm cylinder pressure to allow a premium fuel only engine like my last Boss 351 to run on low octane gas. You lose a bit of low rpm torque, but atleast it does not detonate like mad if you lug it a bit.
