I rope a lot, so I know what I am talking about. I'm guessing you have a nylon rope, most of those ropes are that have the breakaway honda. Nylons will stretch and have some give, poly ropes feel softer but are harder and don't give or stretch and will "jerk".
The proper way to break ina a new rope is use. Some guys say to tie it on your truck and drag it down the gravel road, this will "soften it up", but it also takes the "life out of it"
