Have no idea why it has been in pasture so long. Like I was telling my neighbor today, this is about the 7th or 8th place I've brought new land into production. Dunno, maybe others just didn't wanna take the time or effort to break it out of sod. Also, this is big, expansive cattle country. Pasture is always at a premium. Winter wheat needs to be planted in the fall so that it can go dormant over winter. Also, it takes two years worth of accumulated moisture to produce one crop out here in the "semi-arid" west. It is a “split the land” thing. While one crop is being “fallowed” and “resting”, the other crop (I.E. my last year’s summer fallow) is busy growing/producing wheat. Allan
