David, I live a mile from the ridge that is full of slate called Delta-blue-black and more commomly known as peach bottom slate. It is supposed to have been the best for splitting for roof shingles . The towns here -Delta,pa and Cardiff, Md were settle by the welsh , many of the families still here . There is a welsh church in delta. The larger of the quarries is several acres and at least 150 feet deep .No activity in any of the quarries in 35 years and for many years before that all the material was ground for granules for shingles and roll roofing. george
