4010 battery problem

I bought this tractor a couple years ago, (still 24 Volt)never had a problem but when I started it today heard a spark under the floor. The + post arcing to frame. Lifted out the battery box, removed the battery, had a peice of heavy belt material below the battery. Not sure if it needs an insulator or not, ideas? Removed it and seems to be plenty of clearance. (strongbox battery). Suggestions?? Thanks, Bob
