I think the easiest way to put your mind at rest, is look at the waters surface for a oil shien as oil floats on water. The nose should also smell the diesel oil on the water surface.

A white styrofoam cup full of water would also be a good indicator. Wipe your finger around the tank wall at the water level.

No oil, then I would think it would be clean enough for domestic use for animals.

IMO, that would be doubtful that"s it"s clean enough.
