ok forget windows firewall. yes it may stop bad coming in but if you already have something windows firewall does nothing on anything going out(your computer to internet).
comodo firewall is free and is rated one of the best comodo.com
zonealarm on of the good ones also has a free version tho not as good as it as been in the past.
Antivirus only works if they know about something and they write the signature in an update otherwise useless.
