I have built 5 decks in my time and all are still standing. The last one I did is for myself which is my back deck which is all cedar. He is what I did. 2X10s (doubled up) and these are 7feet on center. then I used 2X8s 12" on center. I used 5/4 X 6 cedar planks for the top boards. (real sturdy, and I dont have a hot tub on it) I dont recommend 2X6s for joists unless they are 12" on center and you use 2X4s for the top planks. Good luck.
