The only thing I know about growing potatoes is from what I've learned from the guys in Idaho, and out there they want the ground as bare as they can get it. They will even burn off the wheat straw from the previous year. They told me the spuds don't like straw or trash. The only reason I can figure out for this is they irrigate heavily and the straw might harbor blight spores. Jim

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out.
