Well first off a WD and an WD45 look a lot alike so it can be either one and a good number of people will call a WD a WD45 and there 2 differant models. On both the serail number is on the left axle houseing. If you walk up behind it theres a flat spot just below the brake cover. Now a WD will have a stright shifter and a bolt on side plate on the engine on the right hand side. The WD45 has a curve to the shifter and no bolt on plate on the right side of the engine. The very late model WDs did have the curve shifter so some times that will not help. Check down in the Allis forum for a lot more info. I may self own both a WD and a WD45
