A few questions: Is the beam recessed underneath the floor joists. i.e. 1' or 2'.or is it at the outside of the rim joist(box if you will).What are you using for decking 5/4x6 or 2x6 or composite materials? 2x6 is enough to span this.You will experience some deflection though sagging or springing. I recommend a 3 ply 2x 10, or 3 ply 2x12 beam.It depends on your budget.Bigger is stronger.I am a professional carpenter with 25 years in the trade.
