I don't know squat about JD pony motors but have had lots of experience with Cat ponies. The same pinion spinning occurs if the oil used in the pony clutch is to heavy. A 10wt oil or automatic transmission fluid works best with the Cat pony, maybe the same will work for you. Just a thought.
