It's the thought that counts... You did the right thing - unless he was just trying to squeeze a little extra sale proceeds for the family! I was at a sale a couple of weeks ago bidding on a nice UB MM when I noticed my competition was a kid next to me... He was so young and seemed so excited (and I already have plenty of projects), that I stopped bidding and he got it very cheaply. He didn't know I was bidding against him and later as he was admiring his tractor I went over and asked him a few questions about it. He was as excited as a grade-schooler on Christmas morning - and said his granddad had had a MM that had been sold and that he'd always wanted to find one that was similar... Really made me glad I backed off...
