The antilock brake system on the older Chevys only works on the rear brakes. It seems unlikely that the antilock system is causing your problem because you really have to mash down on the brakes before the antilock system will kick in. If it is the antilock system, replacement rebuilt unloader valves for these vehicles are not terribly expensive. I had to buy one after my son put power steering fluid in the brake reservoir. The unloader valve is about the only part of the antilock system that can fail. One last thing: The antilock brake computer drives the speedometer. You'll probably want to leave the computer installed if you do rip out the rest of the antilock system.
