My wife patched the knees of a pair of my coveralls years ago, and I came up with the idea of adding several thicknesses of heavy cloth to the patched area. It worked great!

Now as soon as new coverall knees are getting thin, I have her add the extra cloth. Polar fleece works the best. I wish they came like that brand new.

I don't really care what my coveralls look like--they are to keep me warm and my clothes underneath cleaner. But I do enjoy the extra padding when I have to do something on my knees.

I have tried using several different types of strap on knee pads, but found them hot, sweat producing and uncomfortable. The padded coverall knees worked much better for me and cost almost nothing. Luckily, my wife enjoys sewing and is willing to help me out.
