I am going to agree with you on the JD engines lacking the lugging power of other makes - they are smaller cubic inches and the ones that I've looked into have a shorter stroke as well, resulting in less lower RPM lugging ability. I feel that our JD is matched nicely with the equipment we use and we try to avoid lugging situations. My positive experience with JD has to do with a very nice cab (this on our 8630) compared to other makes, better parts availability (has to do with problems with local CNH dealer, while JD dealer always is friendly and has parts on hand), better resale value, and I am thoroughly impressed with the ease of use of the quad range transmission.
