I think the B had a belt on the bottom. REAL expennsive to replace and easy to mess up. The C's and later had rollers on the bottom and were more dependable.

I ran a C for college money and I consider them to make a better bale than the later open throat machines but the C is more difficult to run. One update to a B or C that will make a big difference is to put a bolt in the tensioner chains. Locate it so the tightner is loose when the chamber is empty.

In Alfalfa they will go like a (well I can't say that here). In grass and corn stalks things have to be right. Grass will wrap if too dry and cornstalks just won't feed.

Don't make your windrows to big either.
