Yes in the past we have fixed blocks that have porous castings, as have others. Grind down the "leaking" area, clean and apply Devcon. It depends a lot on where it is located. A "moist" area can be fixed. If it drips, the block will probably need replacing. Might be more of a problem fixing some of the thin castings used today, not much meat to work with. Devcon is similar, but many believe is a better product. I have used it to repair a front end housing which had been used/abused a long time with the pivot bearing shot. Installed several metal spacers between a new bearing and the casting. Filled in the remaining gaps with Devcon, and it has worked marvelously. Devcon also makes a titanium/epoxy product, the end product is white rather than black. Problem is that it cost $500 around 15 years ago for a two lb can. Some engineer and supporting mechanic wanted to use some on a small lab job. Rather than weigh/measure the correct portions they used the whole can to insure it was mixed correctly. They used 2-3 tablespoons, of one $500 can and discarded the remainder.
