Sunflower's For Doves

For the first time we are going to plant sunflowers for doves. I have gotten educated about the variety and the "how to's", but need some help on seed selection. One man has suggested a certified black oil brand($$$$) and another has suggested that I purchase the standard black-oil bird seed for about $12/50lbs. If I choose the cheaper route I will need some help with plate suggestions as well. Any suggestions appreciated.
