Depending on what version of Adobe Reader you have, it should easily allow you to scale the viewpoint without going to all that trouble.

As Wardner said, there probably is a magnifying glass symbol at the top toolbar of Adobe reader with a + and/or - for zoom in or out.

This PC has version 7.0 on it - and it also has a drop percentage scaler that ranges from 8% (very tiny print) to 6400% (only see part of a letter on the screen).

If you don't find a way to do it with the toolbar in Adobe, try downloading and installing the latest version...
