I've had ringing in my ears since childhood . I am now 55 years old. I had ear infections as a child and always was seen by a doctor and was treated with antibiotics of the day. I can't say whether infections caused the tinnitus or not. I don't notice it much when there is some noise around but when there is little noise or silence the ringing is very noticeable. I have used hearing protection devices for 35 years when using any kind of power tool or machinery.
