Local real estate, auto excise, boat and trailer, dog license fees take 4 of my ss checks. If I add up things I cant do without like food, electric, phone, insurance, shoes, clothes.Fuel oil, gas for my truck and tractors.I need an extra month in the year to have any money left over.We pay sales tax on vegetable seeds now.If I buy a bag of seed potatoes the state gets a buck tax.I can buy a ton of potatoes at the grocery store and pay no tax.Small businesses that gross under 10 grand a year have lost their sales tax exemption. Many suppliers will not sell wholesale to you without a sales tax #.I repair fence chargers and it is very hard to track small items you have sold to get a refund. The states plan was to force small shops like mine to in clude labor charges in their gross figures.Labor is not taxable under state law..The owner of Subway sandwich shops has to pay 2500.00 in back meal tax because he gives a free sandwich and drink to employees in the middle of their work shift. He will counter by charging 20 cents plus 2 cents meal tax to employees. The tax leeches are busy in Maine.
