My 2001 3500 apparently had the same mirrors as what you are describing. Pretty much worthless whenever you hook onto a trailer. I looked into the clip on style, looked into aftermarket towing mirrors that were supposed to fit, but looked like crap, and finally went to my GM dealer, ready to shell out some big bucks. Guess what, the genuine GM optional extendable tow mirrors were priced much lower than any of the aftermarket stuff. It took about two days for them to arrive, and took me about 10 minutes to install.
