Dissasembly of track tension adjusters

How is the track tension adjustment piston removed from the seat on the recoil spring on a John Deere 450D? The manual shows that it is just seated on there, and is held in place by pressure. Perhaps it is just corrosion, the dozer was used on a beach and exposed to saltwater. Any suggestions
