Freight is what will kill you, and in a normal year there is a lot of hay out west closer than we are. I tried my best to pencil it out this year, just couldnt make it work. Freight alone is going to put $40-$50 a roll on it. Maybe more with the price of diesel fuel this month.

Rail might work but then you have to worry about non payment and who is prepaying the rail charges. Even at drought prices, you arent making any more on the hay than you would closer to home.

Personally, I'd concentrate on growing a market closer to home.
