I have used a 60" two stage, single auger on a tractor 66" wide and 37 hp. for the last three years. Only this month did I run into drifts where the extra width of the tractor posed a problem, requiring repeated cuts at the snow from a slight angle. On the other hand the smaller implement proved a good match for the tractor's power band in very heavy cutting in one two-hour session. The rear tire chains helped break up the hard snow in the tall drifts to make it easier to blow.
